Firewind

Firewind is an improvisational musical journey created for "Migration Parade", a performance featured in Chicago's 2001 Ladyfest.

The musicians, sharing a group mind about the story to unfold, came together to create Firewind in one live recording session. There were two voices merging; the live MPC2000 based electronic sequences and the musician's improvisations. The sequences created a structure, a vessel to contain and transport the musicians through the journey. The musicians weaved improvisations around the sequences, conveying both the personal emotional journey of migration and the literal movement through space and time.

At Ladyfest the speakers played the collaboration. The music traveled across the lake and expanded as it mixed with sunlight and water and the day's air. It didn't have to push through smoke and so-so stage lighting, past drinks and conversations. The elements filled the music up, made it living, made it bright. Now available on CD.
