Justin Hundrieser
Justin has been studying and playing the music of West Africa since 1994. It was then that he met his teacher and friend Age Delbanco. Age shared with Justin his gifts of experience and knowledge about the culture, music and drum-making of Guinea, West Africa.

With whatever materials that were available to them they made drums using the traditional skinning and tying techniques of Guinea. As a foundation for his drum-making Justin uses salvaged, reused and recycled wood for his drum shells whenever possible. He also works with traditionally carved shells brought from Africa.

Djembes: carved wood shell, goatskin, rope.
Djembe rope tuning. Dun-dun family: reused slat wood shell, cattle skin, rope.

Justin's drum-making has grown into building for private individuals and creating/teaching curriculum for the Chicago Waldorf and Illinois ACT Charter schools.

Justin can be reached in Chicago at 773-736-3237 or 773-736-6632.
